Ed Lockwood is a 1965 Bowbells High School graduate, 1970 Bachelor of Science from Minot State University, Minot, ND and a Master of Science in School administration of Northern State University. He has also done postgraduate work at both the University of North Dakota and North Dakota State University.

He began his career teaching social studies and coaching both football and track at Berthold HS, Berthold, ND. While at Berthold his football team advanced to the playoffs three times and finished as state runner-up once. In 1976, Lockwood assumed the head coaching position for ten years at Mohall HS, Mohall, ND, with his team winning three conference titles and advancing into the playoffs twice. He assumed the position of athletic administrator in Mohall in 1978, a position he held until 1987 and was named region six AD of the year twice. Lockwood assumed the position of High School principal and Athletic Director for Underwood High School, Underwood, ND in 1987-89 and was again named region 6 AD of the year. In 1989, he was named the AD for Williston High School and enjoyed the full time athletic administrator's position for two years.

In 1991, Ed accepted a position as Assistant Principal/ Athletic Coordinator for Fargo South High School. A position he held until 2003, when he was named Director of Student Activities for the Fargo Public Schools. At Mohall, Underwood, Williston, and at South High Schools Ed was the building administrator for speech, debate and drama activities.

He was selected the Class A state Athletic Administrator of the year in 1994. In 2001, the National High School Athletic Coaches Association named Lockwood the National AD of the Year. In 2003 the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (NIAAA) awarded Ed with the Distinguished Service Award. Ed received the NIAAA State Award of Merit from the NDIAAA in 2005. He received the 2005 national citation award from the National Federation of High Activities.

In 2001Ed was elected to the North Dakota High School Activities Association board of Directors and served as president in 2005-06. Prior to his election, he served on numerous committees for the NDHSAA.

He is an active member in both the NDIAAA and NIAAA. Ed served in as an officer in the NDIAAA since 1985 holding the president's position in 1997-99 and currently is the state coordinator for the leadership training program, as well as serving as the NDIAAA Spring Conference coordinator. He is a twenty-six year member of the NIAAA and is currently serving on the NIAAA strategic planning committee and completed a four term in 2006 as an at-large member of the NIAAA board of Directors. He is a national instructor for two" Leadership Training Course" and has taught courses at section V meetings, National conventions, as well as across the state of North Dakota. He also serves as an adjunct professor at Minnesota State University Moorhead in the educational leadership department.

Ed has been involved in civic and service groups as a member of the Kiwanis, Lions, the Mayors Youth Task Force, promotions committee for the Fargodome and president of the 7500 member Hope Lutheran Church in Fargo. He was state president of the North Dakota Jaycees in 1979-80. Ed and his wife Terri reside in Fargo. Ed has one grown son, Shane and Terri has two grown children, Anne and Andrew.
